Ugly Movie Review

Caution: This is very Ugly, and not for the faint-hearted. Anurag Kashyap has come up with a gripping, intense whodunit which has intensity oozing from every character. As an audience it keeps you glued and involved, trying to piece the puzzle of the missing Kali (Anshika Shrivastava). The 10-year-old is the daughter of Shalini (Tejaswini Kolhapure) and her first husband Rahul (Rahul Bhatt). She is now married to ACP Shoumik Bose (Ronit Roy) and is more under house arrest than a house wife. She is suicidal. Shoumik borders on the maniacal! Rahul is an aspiring actor struggling to make ends meet and is also Shalini's college friend. So is Shoumik, who later marries her. The opening scene is abuzz with phones ringing as Kashyap gets down to the business of introducing his characters through various calls across the city, giving us a glimpse of who the characters are and who they are related to. He also throws open the clues early on, making us piece the puzzle together, rather than showing us totally new scenes unlike the director duo of Abbas-Mustan, a style which makes a mockery of film-making. Very subtly, he opens up various areas of the key characters as they go about in search of the missing girl. Till the interval, the film is mind-blowing. Methinks post that, Kashyap could have kept a tight leash on the length of the film. Every character's layer is peeled off in bits and pieces as the investigation continues. Though the end at first appeared not to be in line with the plot, I get a different view as I write the review [going back to the scene of kidnapping] trying to piece things together. And if a director can do that to the viewer, it has to be phenomenal. The cops just miss the plot. Ronit Roy as the maniacal ACP who is seeking revenge for a college rebuttal is fantastic. After BOSS, this has to be another feather in his cap. Tejaswini Kolhapure as the girl who marries her college sweetheart and then divorces and marries again only to get further into a mess is realistic. She captures her character well and stays within. Ditto Siddhanth Kapoor, Rahul Bhatt and Vineet Kumar Singh who plays Chaitanya. Surveen Chawla comes on screen for a few brief scenes and leaves a lasting impression. Hats off to Girish Kulkarni who plays inspector Jadhav. You can't differentiate his performance from a real cop. You have to see him to believe it. Brilliant! Yes! That's the best part about this movie: every character is made to stand out, regardless of the length of his or her role. UGLY is fast-paced and stays true to its genre. If only Kashyap had got the timing of his release right! Rating: 4.5/5

Surveen Chawla who plays an item girl in the film, had to do an item number on the song ‘Nichod De’.
And for this song, Anurag Kashyap roped in a Bhojpuri choreographer.
The song is a very raunchy and bold number and Anurag wanted the raunchiness to come out exactly as one sees in Bhojpuri films.
Songs in Bhojpuri films are usually very raunchy and in order to get that feel and vibe, Anurag called a Bhojpuri choreographer.

But Surveen Chawla was not prepared for this and when she was explained the steps she freaked out.

So in order to prepare herself she watched a few Bhojpuri songs and dance numbers.

She was skeptical about her performance but after watching the song, the team of the film told her she had done a fabulous job and the song had turned out quite well.

Reportedly, superstar Rajinikanth‘s assets will be auctioned by a private Bank, EXIM. The bank in Chennai released an official notice stating that they are about to auction his properties.

Director Anurag Kashyap, who is known for his quirky and sharp sense of humor as well as his disdain for Bollywood's trends, has taken potshots at the trend of 'item numbers' in his upcoming film Ugly with the song Nichod De, which features Surveen Chawla.

The song features Surveen playing a sultry student trying to seduce her professor in a library and the song video is interspersed with hilarious scenes where Inspector Jadhav (played by Girish Kulkarni) tries his best to describe the song to his boss ACP Bose (played by Ronit Roy) who is trying to trace the item song dancer Rakhi Malhotra (played by Surveen Chawla). The song has been sung by Bharka Swaroop Saxena and G.V. Prakash Kumar whereas the lyrics of this song are written by Gaurav Solanki with music by G.V. Prakash Kumar.

Juhi Chawla Disappointed By Aamir Khan’s PK?

Aamir Khan’s “PK” seems do be doing amazingly well on the box office in the opening weekend (Box Office: Aamir Khan’s PK Super Collections), though they didn’t break any records but the movie earned around Rs. 55 Crores ( Rs 550 million) in two days.

The movie received mixed reviews from the critics, some saying that “PK” is Rajkumar Hirani’s weakest film till date, however, Juhi Chawla disagrees.
Actress who gained recognitions with her tragic romance film ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’ alongside Aamir Khan, tweeted that after watching “PK”, her respect for the director has soared, but she also said that there are some elements that she disagrees with.

Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, in his own words, went into the embrace of grandchildren when he, recently, visited New Delhi to attend an event over the weekend.

The event had to be shot and televised in New Delhi and this made Big B to meet his daughter Shweta Nanda in New Delhi. Amitabh Bachchan then took to his blog and posted a picture of his teenage grandchildren – Agastya and Navya Naveli.

He went on to explain how his grandchildren have grown and ready to break into adulthood. He wrote, “The grandchildren have grrrroooooowwwnnnn ! They are tall and filled up and with crackling voice, about to break through to maturity. And the short time spent with them was educative and sound.”

The megastar also rued over the enormity of traffic in New Delhi, which sometimes overtakes Mumbai too. “Back, through the traffic of Delhi which at times … at times … beats Mumbai to it, on to the plane and back home … and domesticity, and simple issues that occurred during this short departure,” added he.

The Bachchans are said to be a close knit family and Amitabh Bachchan has never shied away from expressing his love for his children and grandchildren, be it Abhishek and his daughter Aaradhya or Shweta and her children. Big B also posted a picture of Abhishek and Aishwarya and their daughter Aaradhya from the event where Aishwarya was awarded the ‘most successful Miss World ever’, captioning it as “the most attractive feature of the picture is the surprised face of the tiny tot.”

Shah Rukh Khan To Romance Pakistani Actress Mahira Khan In Raees

If the latest buss is to be believed, then Pakistani actress Mahira Khan is all set for her Bollywood debut.

Mahira Khan, the Pakistani actress made her film debut opposite singer-actor Atif Aslam in Shoaib Mansoor‘s 2011 social drama, Bol.
Producer Ritesh Sidhwani tweeted the final cast of upcoming film Raees, naming Mahira as the leading lady. Raees stars Shah Rukh Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in lead roles. The movie is expected to be shot in the interiors of Gujarat.
Mahira will play Shah Rukh Khan’s wife in the film. SRK plays a gangster based in Gujarat while Nawazuddin Siddiqui is the cop who traps him in Mumbai.

Reportedly, Sonam Kapoor and Kirti Sanon were said to be doing the film but Rahul‘s tweet puts all speculations to rest.

Director of the film Rahul Dholakia tweeted, “Both nervous and excited to be working with 2 extremely versatile, brilliant and diverse actors in #raees – @iamsrk @Nawazuddin_S. Lethal !”
Sidhwani wrote, “Our leading lady in #Raees @themahirakhan @iamsrk @rahuldholakia @FarOutAkhtar”
Mahira Khan first made news in India with her TV show ‘Humsafar’ where she portrayed the role of a simple yet strong girl ‘Khirad’ opposite Fawad Khan. The show became an instant hit and the lead pair of the show – Mahira and Fawad – overnight stars.
Raees directed by Rahul Dholakia, stars Shah Rukh Khan, Mahira Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui and goes on floors in February 2015.

Nagarjuna Hates Tollywood!

Shocked! Well, that’s absolutely true! The Tollywood King, Nagarjuna expresses his regret for ‘Tollywood’. He says that the word Tollywood should not be used because it is something like a copy from Hollywood.  He made these comments during one of the episodes of the Small Screen Biggest Game Show ” Meelo Evaru Koteswarudu”. He said that he rather prefers to call it  “Telugu Film Industry” than calling it Tollywood.

Does it look like a copy from Hollywood?  King Nagarjuna said “I’m not in favour of calling film industries with Tollywood, Kollywood, Mollywood, Sandalwood. Because, Hollywood is a place there and applying the same here is not apt. Along with me, many of the stars doesn’t like them.”

Nag also added that many actors don’t like to be called as Tollywood, Kollywood  and so on. They rather prefers being addressed as the Telugu Film industry, Tamil Film Industry.In the past even Kamal Hassan made the same comments about being called as Kollywood.

Last words of Chakri

The sudden demise of music director Chakri has left the Industry in grief. His dear friend and director Puri Jagannadh paid rich tributes to Chakri and remembered his association with him.
Puri stated ” Till 1 AM in the morning, Chakri was in his recording studio and before going home, Chakri said to his office boy, “Endhuko Jagan annayya ni ippudu chudalani undi ra (Don’t know why, I wanted to see brother Jagan at this time). I feel really sad and I miss by brother”.
Those were the last lines uttered by Chakri.
Puri, who worked with Chakri for films like Bachi, Itlu Sravani Subramanyam, Idiot, Amma Nanna O Tamil Ammayi, Sivamani, Desamuduru and Neninthe among others, is quite devastated by the loss of Chakri.

KHAMOSHIYAN actress Sapna Pabbi: Heroines in Bhatt camp are not just for erotica

Ever since the KHAMOSHIYAN trailer released, B-town has been going gaga over it! '24' fame actress Sapna Pabbi has been grabbing eyeballs for her 'negative' portrayal in the upcoming film. She plays the character of Meera, a mysterious woman, who runs a guest house of her husband and has lots of secrets to unravel.
KHAMOSHIYAN being her debut step in Bollywood, we wonder what made her take up a character with grey shades. Sapna explicates, "Firstly, I believe you really can't slot it as negative. There are so many different emotions and shades that you can't categorize. Secondly, whenever and whatever roles are given to you, as actors you want to do it best and bring out the best. I wasn't skeptical about it for a bit. I pretty much knew about the grey shades in my character, bold scenes and I was ready to do it."
But ask about her comfort level in doing intimate scenes on-screen and she shares, "Obviously I was nervous like any girl would be because intimacy is something which you don't present in front of so many people. It's a private thing. But, thankfully I had wonderful team and amazing co-stars like Gurmeet and Ali. Also, my director Karan Darra was so supportive and understanding. I had a blast shooting for this film."
The way Sapna's character is depicted in KHAMOSHIYAN, it quite harks us back to Bipasha's character in JISM, where she played a negative role, right at the beginning of her career . Bring this to Sapna's notice and she says, "Bipasha's success is commendable. JISM was a great film but there is enough depthness and layers to my character. It's a complex character and it's more than being just erotic. Though it was challenging to do, it wasn't difficult. I hope I create my own space."
Women have an edge over their male counterparts in the movies made under Bhatt camp. However, Sapna has her own stand on it. "I think all the actresses (Jacqueline, Bipasha, Esha, etc) who started from this banner (Vishesh Films) have done exceedingly well in their career. The heroines here are not just for erotica. Yes a lot of people say that Bhatts' heroines are sexy and bold, but they like a specific genre and because they do well in that particular genre they have a great place in the industry. They make films which they believe in. So what's wrong about it?" saying this Sapna adds to it, "I think guys like Randeep, Emraan have done equally good in this camp. I haven't outshined in KHAMOSHIYAN."
As her character in the film is very secretive, probe Sapna if she also shares a similar trait and she quips, "No I am very blunt and can't be secretive. I believe in honesty and speak my mind all the time."
Also starring Gurmeet Chaudhry, Ali Fazal, KHAMOSHIYAN, directed by Karan Darra, is all set to hit the screens on January 30, 2014.

The actress has never swam & is keen to take up swimming classes.

The young actress who made a huge debut this year with Heropanti has a phobia of water and was lucky that she was not required to perform any scenes in water.
Even as a kid, Kriti would not enter the pool.

She now wants to overcome her fears and learn swimming as the profession she is in may require her to swim or pose in water in the future.

Kriti has been much appreciated for her debut film Heropanti which was a super hit and it got her performance noticed.
She will next be seen opposite Akshay Kumar and Shahid Kapoor in Singh is Bling and Farzi respectively and is currently prepping for her role, learning kick boxing and some dance styles too.

Bipasha Basu has been bestowed with the title ‘Queen Of Horror‘, given the number of supernatural films that she’s done in her career and the Bong beauty, who’ll be next seen in Bhushan Patel’s horror film Alone, says that people rightfully call her the ‘Queen Of Horror’ and that she graciously accepts this title.

Basu says, “I accept this title of ‘Horror Queen’ very happily. Honestly I’m the only single actor in the business of the Hindi film industry who has done so many supernatural films so I will own this title graciously but for me, what is important is that what am I getting to do in terms of content of the film. It’s not genre specific for me, it’s more about the kind of roles that I play in different films and how entertaining they are and how different they are because I have been acting in film’s since past 14 years and I have a large filmography. Yes I have done a huge number of horror films and people call me the ‘Queen Of Hindi Film Industry’ rightfully.”

Bipasha Basu will play conjoined twins in Alone and she’ll be seen opposite TV heartthrob Karan Singh Grover.
Directed by Bhushan Patel, Alone has been produced by Kumar Mangat, Abhishek Pathak, Pradeep Agarwal and Prashant Sharma and is slated to release on January 16.
